Rhinoplasty

Important Notice

These instructions provide general guidance and may be modified by Dr. Khalid Almutairi according to the procedure, technique, and the patient’s medical condition. If this information differs from the direct instructions or discharge prescription, follow the patient-specific instructions given by the doctor. Do not change a medication dose, stop medication prescribed for a chronic condition, or begin a new treatment without medical guidance.

This information does not replace medical assessment or postoperative follow-up.

Splint and Dressings

Keep the nasal splint and dressings clean and dry. Do not move or remove them yourself. Contact the clinic if the splint becomes loose, wet, or displaced. The splint is removed or dressings are changed at the time specified by the doctor according to the procedure.

Sleeping and Head Elevation

Sleep on your back with your head elevated on two pillows, especially during the first two weeks, unless the doctor directs otherwise. Avoid sleeping on your side or stomach until permitted, and avoid pressure or impact to the nose.

Swelling and Bruising

Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are expected after surgery and may change during the first few days. Light cold compresses may be used on the cheeks and around the eyes during the first days. Do not place ice directly on the skin and do not apply pressure to the nose or splint.

Medication and Pain Management

Use prescribed medicines according to the discharge prescription. Paracetamol may be used, and ibuprofen may be used if it is appropriate for you and permitted by the doctor, according to the pain-management protocol. Take an antibiotic or anti-swelling medication if prescribed.

Avoid aspirin, blood-thinning medicines, and supplements that may increase bleeding for the period specified by the doctor, commonly around two weeks depending on your condition. Do not stop a blood thinner prescribed by another doctor without direct medical guidance.

Activity and Precautions

Avoid bending or lowering the head, strenuous activity, sport, and weightlifting for the period specified by the doctor. Do not rub or press on the nose, and do not smoke. Avoid resting glasses on the bridge of the nose for approximately six weeks or as directed by the doctor. Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen after the doctor permits it.

Follow-up and Expected Recovery

Attend the scheduled follow-up appointments. Some swelling may remain for several months. The final appearance may take approximately 6–12 months or longer, particularly with thick skin or revision surgery. These periods are approximate and are not guarantees of a fixed recovery time.

When to Contact the Clinic

Contact the clinic for fever, severe pain that does not respond to prescribed medication, increasing redness, abnormal discharge, sudden swelling, worsening breathing, or an unusual severe headache.

When to Seek Urgent Medical Help

Seek urgent medical assessment for heavy or persistent bleeding, or for a sudden or significant visual change.
