Liposuction and Body Contouring

Important Notice

These instructions provide general guidance and may be modified by Dr. Khalid Almutairi according to the procedure, technique, and the patient’s medical condition. If this information differs from the direct instructions or discharge prescription, follow the patient-specific instructions given by the doctor. Do not change a medication dose, stop medication prescribed for a chronic condition, or begin a new treatment without medical guidance.

This information does not replace medical assessment or postoperative follow-up.

Compression Garment

Wear the medical compression garment 24 hours a day, removing it only for showering.

Use of the garment may continue for 6 to 8 weeks, according to the procedure and the doctor’s assessment.

The garment should be secure without causing severe pain, numbness, or a change in skin colour.

Avoid folding the garment or allowing it to bunch over one area, as this may cause uneven pressure.

Movement and Prevention of Blood Clots

Rest during the first two to three days.

Begin light, frequent walking inside the home as soon as the doctor permits.

Avoid remaining in bed or sitting without movement for long periods.

Move the feet and ankles while lying down.

Use a blood thinner only if prescribed by the doctor.

Drains and Access Sites

Surgical drains remain in place until the fluid volume decreases to the level specified by the doctor.

Do not pull a drain, cut its tube, or open it yourself.

Record the amount of fluid if asked to do so.

A small amount of fluid may drain from the liposuction access sites during the first two or three days, and this may be expected.

Keep the access sites clean and covered with gauze as needed.

Do not take a full shower before the drains are removed or before the doctor permits it.

Medication and Pain Management

The clinic’s pain-control protocol combines paracetamol and ibuprofen. This is an effective option with a strong safety record and is supported by medical evidence. Your dose and dosing intervals are specified individually in the discharge prescription.

Ibuprofen must not be used in patients with kidney disease, a stomach ulcer or previous gastrointestinal bleeding, allergy to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, or use of blood thinners.

Paracetamol must not be used in patients with any liver problem or raised liver enzymes, or when it is not tolerated.

In these situations, the other medicine may be used alone or an alternative selected by the doctor. Refer to the Pain Management section for the full details.

Take the antibiotic and anti-swelling medicines as prescribed.

Take a blood thinner only when prescribed.

Avoid aspirin and medicines or supplements that increase bleeding for the period specified by the doctor.

Do not stop medicines for chronic conditions except under medical guidance.

Activity

Avoid exercise, strenuous activity, and lifting weights for approximately 4–6 weeks or as directed by the doctor.

Return to work gradually according to the extent of the procedure and the nature of the work.

Avoid smoking and exposure to other people’s smoke.

Avoid direct sun on bruises or incisions to prevent pigmentation.

Skin Care

Do not use creams, oils, or massage during the first two weeks unless directed by the doctor.

Begin lymphatic massage or supportive treatments only after the doctor approves.

Do not apply forceful pressure to areas of swelling or firmness.

Swelling, firmness, and surface irregularity may persist temporarily during recovery.

Expected Recovery

Bruising and swelling improve gradually.

The final result may take three to six months.

Maintaining a stable weight helps the result remain stable.

Warning Signs

Seek prompt medical assessment for heavy bleeding, severe pain or increasing redness, fever, purulent or malodorous discharge, a large fluid collection, or a sudden increase in swelling.

Seek emergency medical help immediately for difficulty breathing, chest pain, or clear swelling or pain in one leg.
